MANMAC (MANgrove MACrofauna)

As mangrove crabs are considered to be ecosystem engineers, their study with a view to monitoring and protecting mangrove ecosystems as sentinel species is relevant. The MANMAC project aimed to assess the impact of nutrient inputs on the benthic macrofauna compartment of mangrove ecosystems in the Mozambique Channel. This issue was approached on a temporal and integrative scale, using a dual ecological and ecophysiological methodology. This approach is based on :
1) an assessment of the diversity of organisms as well as their functions and associated trophic structure (Claire Golléty, University of Mayotte, University of Montpellier).
2) On an individual scale, the aim is to understand whether mangrove crabs  are differently vulnerable to nitrogen inputs, depending on their location and the environmental conditions in which they have developed.
The second objective of this project was part of my doctoral research.

This project was part of a research project co-funded by the Consortium de recherches "Îles Eparses 2017-2020" of the TAAF (Terres Australes et Antarctiques Françaises) and the French Embassy in Mozambique
